Ketogenic,
Intermediate, Atkins, Zen, Raw food, Vegan…… it seems there is a new diet fad
every few months. India has been known as the country of obese, a result of
sedentary lifestyles coupled with rich food heritage. But with PM Modiji’s
promotion of Fit India Campaign and the pandemic, there is lots of awareness on
personal fitness and health. Similarly with increase in visibility of
influencers and airbrushed celebrities, many people are resorting to take
short-cuts and looking to some magic bullet and are therefore following one fad
diet plan after another.
Untrained nutritionists and know it all influencers and personal trainers are promoting such fads with no understanding the basic risk-benefit components. Without the requisite formal qualification, the plans suggested are without scientific basis and generally are risky health-wise and are akin to shooting in the dark and hoping for the best. Expectedly instead of the desired results, it has been observed that people tire away programs and the rapid weight loss made during such programs is quickly regained. Then again the cycle starts and it has been going on and on.
In contrast
to this there is a health studio which is taking an all together different
approach and focusing on overall holistic health with a mixture of moderate
diet and exercise. The philosophy is to help people make slower but permanent
gains and help them lead a much better lifestyles in longer run.
Nutrifit, the health studio is the baby/brain
child of Divya Diwaker a nutritionist and wellness expert from the city of
Jabalpur located in Central India. Divya is a qualified dietician and has over
the years completed various certificate programs to top-up her knowledge.
While she graduated as Bio-technology
graduate from RTMNU-Nagpur University, it was during the course of this program
that Divya developed a deep inclination to serve people in field of healthcare
and wellness. Initially she explored the field of imaging and became a trained
technician in use of equipments such as CT scanner and Ultrasound sonography.
However, she while working in this field was not satisfied and ultimately found
her calling in the field of Dietetics. After completing her PG Diploma in Dietetics
and Masters in Dietetics ,she worked with various hospitals and clinics and has
been able to gain a vast array of hands-on experience in the field of Food and
nutrition. She is Certified Diabetes Educator too. Her expertise are Pre and
post Pregancy Nutrition, weight management, heart diseases, diabetes, thyroid
disorder, PCOS and Food Intolerance.
Now with the
vision to implement her learnings and ideas led Divya to the formation Nutrifit
the health studio. As mentioned earlier, the approach for advising clients at
Nutrifit is completely holistic and simple. The focus is on helping the clients
achieve an overall equilibrium in their life styles with a combination of
balanced diet, moderate do’s and don’ts, exercise program and overall mental
well-being. Fad of the season diet programs, crash diets, highly intensive exercise
programs are not encouraged except in certain situations and that too in a
controlled manner.
Over the
years, this approach has proved to be extremely successful for her clients.
This has resulted in longer retention of programs and a remarkable improvement
in physical and mental health of the clients. Even though the studio is based out of
Jabalpur, due to continuous word of mouth publicity, there is an extensive
client base located locally as well as in cities such as Mumbai, Ranchi, Pune,
Raipur, Nagpur, Nepal and Germany.
As per
Divya, fad of the season diets are very rigid and become very monotonous after
the novelty factor goes off. This leads to another fad and the vicious cycle
goes on. The various restrictions in such programs, not only impact the
nutrition profile but also clash with social life, which in turn lead to mental
stress. Similarly if advised by unqualified professionals, there is huge risk
of lasting damage to the health of the client. On the other hand moderate diets
lead to longer adherence and combined with a moderate exercise program leads to
slow but longer lasting health improvements. It also helps thee clients develop
better lifestyle and optimum health profile in long run.
Divya is now
planning to create multiple programs around this overall holistic approach. The
plan is to expand to the various other vibrant brands in Central India and make
Nutrifit a strong regional brands over the next few years. At the same time she
is focussing on treating many disease with holistic approach and help as many
people she can.
